I had the pleasure of listening to Karen Farbridge, Mayor of the City of Guelph give the opening welcome remarks at the “Building a Research Shop: A Community-Campus Dialogue.” Someone just sent me the transcript of those remarks. In her words, “Any city that has a university in its midst is a lucky one indeed. And Guelph is no exception.
We tend to think first of the economic and social benefits the university provides: high quality jobs, contributions to arts and culture, and access to innovation and talent.
But there is a significant opportunity for the university to contribute its research capacity to help address community issues.”
Her comments were wonderful way to start the day.
