My roots

Librarianship goes deep into my roots. I have a stepmother and several aunts who are/were librarians. There is also a deeper connection with someone I never knew…

Lawrence J. Burpee was the chief of the Carnegie Library of Ottawa and president of the Ontario Library Association. He was the first to suggest a national library for Canada.

He was also founding editor of the Canadian Geographic magazine, one of the founders of the Canadian Historical Association and the Canadian Author’s Association. He also served on half a dozen other boards, including the Boy Scouts of Canada.
